The Ascension Choir
Director of Music: Dr. David Kreider, D.M.A., Catholic University of America
Dr. Kreider is a notable pianist and a Senior Lecturer of the music faculty at McDaniel College in Westminster . As Senior Lecturer Dr. Kreider teaches piano, piano pedagogy, film music, and music history courses. A previous Fulbright scholar in Vienna , Austria , Dr. Kreider has received recognition for his artistic contributions, most notably at Carnegie Hall. He is the founder and Artistic Director of “Chamber Music on the Hill.”
Dr. Kreider has been the Music Director and Choir Master for The Church of the Ascension since 1982. He has served various other churches in similar positions since 1968.

The Ascension Choir welcomes singers of all ages,from Middle School students through adulthood. The choir sings at the 9:15 a.m. service Sundays (except for the first Sunday of the month) in the Great Hall, September through June and on special Feast Days. On the first Sunday each month the choir sings at the 11:15 a.m. service in the Stone Church . The Choir annually presents a service of Lessons and Carols and major works with instruments during Holy week and Easter services.
Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 8:00 to 9:15 p.m., and on Sunday mornings prior to the Service, with special Saturday morning rehearsals held during special occasions.
The Handbell Choir of The Church of the Ascension
Director of Handbell Choir: Lynn Lyon-Vaiden
Lynn began ringing in 1979 when her church purchased five octaves of handbells. She has directed at schools and churches since 1983 and has attended many national and regional handbell festivals and directors' seminars. Lynn has directed the Ascension Handbell Choir since 1997 and previously directed the Handbell Choir at St. Timothy's

The Handbell Choir has been worshipping God with handbell music since 1989. It uses four octaves of Schulmerich Handbells and three octaves of Malmark Choir chimes. The Handbell Choir rings once a month for church services (10-12 times per year). We enjoy sharing our music with the community. Our Handbell Choir has played for Rotary Club dinners, at other churches, and at the Town Mall of Westminster during the Christmas season.
Our intergenerational choir welcomes young and the young-at-heart who are in the 6 th grade through adulthood to join us. Previous music experience is helpful but not required. Our rehearsal times are Wednesday evenings from 6:40 to 7:50 p.m.
